Five Ways to Have Fun at Home This Spring Break
Living on a college budget seems to be getting more and more difficult these days. For those of us who have opted to skip the Spring Break vacation and save some money, there are still plenty of things to do! Here’s a short list of possible ways to melt away those icy winter blues.
Backyard Camping
Grab a tent, grab some friends, and start a bonfire! Sometimes going to a destination for camping isn’t always an option but setting up camp in your (or a friend’s) backyard can be just as fun. As an added bonus: You’re not stuck outside if the weather gets bad! Ideally, one of the ‘campers’ will have a tent already, but if not, there are some pretty decently cheap tents at Walmart. You may need to make a trip anyway for the marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate, because what would a campfire be without s’mores?
Movie Marathon
Some days, there’s nothing better than curling up in a cozy spot and binging all your favorite movies, whether you’re alone or with your friends. Make a day out of it and prepare some snacks, like popcorn, trail mix, or whatever else you’d like. Here’s a list of marathon-worthy movies:
- “Mean Girls”
- All eight movies from the “Harry Potter” series
- “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy
- Any Marvel or DC movie (okay, maybe not ANY… looking at you, “Suicide Squad”)
- “High School Musical 1, 2 and 3″ (Of course!)
- “Jurassic Park” and then immediately after, “Jurassic World”
- “Scary Movie 1-5″
- “The Hangover” Trilogy
Go Hiking
This may be difficult for some, but for many, there are tons of hiking trails around to choose from, ranging from “a nice walk” to “I have been hiking since I was born and pain no longer registers in my muscles.” No matter the trail, no matter your experience, always hike with a buddy. Many activities can be enjoyed alone, hiking is not one of them- stay safe.
Go to the Beach
This is a no-brainer, but also may be impossible for those living hours (or days) away from the closest beach. In those cases, there is usually a lake around somewhere, which some may argue is better than a beach. You don’t have to fly down to Miami or Cancun to enjoy a nice day in the sun, surrounded by sand and waves. Take a day trip with your friends to your favorite destination, lake or ocean, but don’t forget the sunscreen!
Have a Barbeque
Barbeques are a staple of the summer, and isn’t Spring Break just a little sample of the summertime to help us get through the semester? Get in the spirit and channel your inner dad- grilling is one of the easier ways to cook, so there’s no excuse! Everyone loves a good barbeque, it’s the perfect combination of food, friends, and fun in the sun!
